More time for the family business
Lars-Göran and Irene’s son Karl-Johan were involved in the company at an early stage, and worked weekends and holidays. He packed mail order parcels in the barn and worked as a welder, lathe turner and product photographer at Jultorp.
Karl-Johan completed his technical studies at the Cathedral school in Skara, which left him with more time to devote to the family business. Karl-Johan saw great potential in the business and accepted responsibility at an early stage for the production of the catalogue, marketing, pricing and lots of other things. Together with Lars-Göran, he was also involved in a lot of the purchasing.
Karl-Johan tells us:
My grandfather, Göran Blank, was sales manager and purchaser at Törlings in Hjo, a great character. It was great fun to visit him at work. The office joined on with their building materials store when I was a boy. That might be why I wanted to get some work experience later on at the ironmonger, Byggaxel in Skarahus, when I was at high school. It was exciting and in full swing.
